Chen Long snatches All England title from Lee Chong Wei – Badminton News
Men’s Singles crown of Yonex All England Open Badminton Championships belonged to Chen Long as he overpowered Lee Chong Wei in the title match on Sunday, March 10, 2013.
This final match was played at the local badminton complex of Birmingham and it remained in full swing for one hour and two minutes.
Both world class shuttlers employed their brilliance in the game and kept the audience glued to their chairs while piling up final figures of 21-17 and 21-18.
The Chinese campaigner laid foundation of his straight-set victory immediately in the first set and then served notice of his dominance by winning the second set.
On the other hand, the badminton king Chong Wei looked completely off colour as he put a fluctuated performance and squandered the opportunity of a hat-trick title.
In the opening game, the Malaysian maestro failed to employ his brilliance in the establishing rallies and lost seven valuable points in a row.
This series of productive strokes helped Chen Long to gain a respectable lead and he finished first half of the set with a decent total of 11.
After the mid-game break, Chong Wei prevailed in couple of consecutive rallies and narrowed the gap on points table.
World Number one Malaysian player brought life back into the contest by clinching many points in third quarter of the set but then few fatal mistakes brought him down.
Meanwhile, Chen Long played flawless badminton in pressure situation and wrapped this segment of the showdown with an impressive result of 21-17.
The following game was also played in similar manner as the Chinese campaigner ruled the court in the beginning, lost grip in the middle and then locked the honour in the end.
In first half of the set, Chen Long relished full benefits of his lead in match score position and raised his chances of success.
At first, he mounted pressure by putting a significant margin before the interval and then doubled the impact with a mountainous figure of 11.
Though, Chong Wei showed some resilience in third quarter of the set but then his competitor registered an overwhelming score of 21-18 and secured Men’s Singles crown of All England Open.
