Chen Long stands tall among rest of Chinese lot at Li Ning China Open 2012 – Badminton feature
China’s impressive player Chen Long, who has become one of the most aggressive shuttlers in the world, put up a staggering show in last week’s Li Ning China Open 2012 and proved his worth by winning Men’s Singles title in an unbeaten fashion.
The World Number Three Long, who was the top seeded player in Men’s Singles main draw of the championship, displayed his remarkable skills in the arena. He did not lose even a single set to any of his challenger throughout the tournament and remained successful
in winning the title in a staggering manner.
The bronze medallist at London Olympics, Long has been showing up his elite skills for the last couple of years and has also won many major titles showing his commitment and with the game and hunger for victory in an era when his compatriot and two times
Olympic Champion Lin Dan and current World Number One Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia are also there.
The impressive Long entered into China Open as the top seed in Men’s Singles draw of the tournament. In the absence of Lin, Chong Wei and Peter Hoeg Gade, the field was not flooded with mega stars and Long progressed smoothly all the way to secure the title
without facing any trouble.
In the first round of the competition, Long was up against his younger team-mate Bin Qiao who is one of the most talented budding shuttlers in the country. The higher ranked Chinese player did not face any considerable trouble in winning this opening round
battle in straight games.
In the second round of China Open, Long took on another Chinese shuttler Chen Yuekun who is also one of the most promising and young shuttlers in China. The top seeded Long did not show any mercy to his lower ranked team-mate and won the battle without losing
any set.
In the Men’s Singles quarter-final, Long locked horns against Japan’s Kenichi Tago, the fifth seeded player in the main draw. The higher ranked Chinese shuttler was in staggering form as he played with tremendous precision in the arena and showed no respect
to his opponent. He easily wrapped up a comprehensive victory by finishing off the battle in straight games.
In the semi-final battle of the championship, the lofty Long faced the in-form Malaysian shuttler Wei Feng Chong who remained impressive in all of his matches. However, the local shuttler was on a different level in the arena as he played with tremendous
precision and managed to end up the winning run of his Malaysian rival in a lopsided fashion.
In the title match, the top seeded Long faced his experienced compatriot Wang Zhengming who is one of the best players in the world. Nevertheless, the top seeded Long controlled the pace of rallies and played positive badminton when it mattered most and
eventually remained successful in winning the final match in straight games.
Long did not let down his home fans who cheered for every shot he made and supported him throughout the tournament. Many think that Long is the right replacement for the legendary Lin Dan when he retires from the professional badminton.
The impressive Long has proved himself one of the most committed and dedicated shuttlers in Men’s Singles category throughout the world by proving his mettle in all major tournaments at international level.
