China’s Chen Long has thrashed India’s P Kashyap in the Men’s Singles quarter-final of the 2011 Thailand Open GP Gold on Friday, June 10. The match was held in Bangkok, Thailand.
Chen Long, who is the top seed of the event, took 43 minutes in defeating the fourteenth seed, Kashyap, in a straight-set contest without facing any considerable resistance.
The top seed opened his campaign against the Indian in a thrilling way to reach at 4-1. Kashyap was clearly lacking the speed and precision against the Chinese, who was playing with pure perfection. The Chinese was leading at 15-7, when the Indian lifted up his level of play by employing aggressive tactics. He surprised everyone present in the indoor arena to crawl back into the set at 17-18.
At this concluding stage of the opening set, both shuttlers were focused in the match and were trying to play safe strokes to avoid mistakes. The score was 19-18, when the Chinese scored two points to finish the set by a margin of 21-18, in 26 minutes.
In the second game, Chen Long, who is currently the World Number Four in the Men’s Singles world rankings, showed that he belongs to the highest level of the game as he reached at 9-2 by playing flawless badminton. At the end of the half, the Chinese was leading the game with a comfortable gap of 11-3.
The top seed remained on track and reached at 16-4 by playing an incredibly fast game. Kashyap employed everything he had in his arsenal, but failed to stop the aggressive advancement of the roaring Chinese. Chen was playing with great precision and found no difficulty in scoring points in the second game.
Long was successful in beating the Indian with a destructive margin of 21-5, in 17 minutes. The Chinese emerged as the winner in this 43-minute straight-game match, which ended up by a score of 21-18 and 21-5.
In the Men’s Singles semi-final, Chen will fight Sung Hwan Park of Korea in what is expected to be a thrilling clash between the shuttlers.
