Chen Long to meet Du Pengyu in Men’s Singles quarter-final of Indonesia Open Premier Super Series
China’s Chen Long advanced to meet team-mate, Du Pengyu, in the Men’s Singles quarter-final round, after ousting Kenichi Tago in the round-of-16 of the 2011 Indonesia Open Premier Super Series, in Jakarta, on June 23, 2011.
World Number Four in the international rankings, Chen, faced no difficulty in thrashing the Japanese in a straight-set fight, by consuming a court time of just 40 minutes.
Chen, who is one of the most attacking players in the world of badminton, opened his campaign against Tago, in an impressive manner as he wasted no time in building a remarkable gap by reaching 11-5, in the opening part of the first set.
Tago, who is currently placed at Number 18 in the world rankings of Men’s Singles, had no answer to the power-play of Chen, who missed no chance of hitting powerful smashes on the backhand and forehand of his opponent.
The Japanese was playing a confused game as he failed to tackle the attacking play of the Chinese. Chen maintained a good speed in the whole set and showed no sign of slowing down the rallies. He won the first game in 19 minutes with a dramatic score of
21-11.
In the second set of this Men’s Singles fight, Tago geared up his speed but failed to put up any sort of strong resistance against the hard hitting of the Chinese. Chen continued dictating the pace of the game and pushed Tago on the back foot. Until the
interval, the fourth seed Chinese was leading the second set by a margin of 11-7.
In the second-half of the set, the Japanese became fast in the front court to keep his rival away from the net. However, the Chinese was quicker and perfect in his net play, as he remained dominant in the game. He ended the second game in 21 minutes with
a seven-point difference of 21-14. The ending result of this 40-minute one-sided battle was 21-11 and 21-14.
In tomorrow’s quarter-final, Chen will be up against his compatriot and World Number Ten, Du Pengyu, who brushed aside Kazushi Yamada of Japan in the Men’s Singles second round of the tournament.
