Chen Ruolin conquers Women’s 10m Platform semi-final: Day two– 18th FINA Diving World Cup
Chinese veteran, Chen Ruolin continued her dominance and conquered the top spot in the semi-final of Women’s 10m Platform on day two of the 18th Federation Internationale de Natation (FINA) Visa Diving World Cup 2012 at the Olympic Aquatics Centre,
London on Tuesday, February 21.
The two-time Olympic gold medallist, Ruolin, who earned top qualification spot in the preliminary round of the 10m event, served notice of her talent in the semi-final to sustain her finest spot.
The 19-year-old Ruolin failed to improve her qualification mark but succeeded in sustaining her first position in the semi-final.
She faced strong battle from her team-member, Hu Yadan, who tried to overwhelm her in the semi-final, but Ruolin managed to secure her position by gathering 373.30 points.
She remained 34.45 points ahead of her closest competitor, Yadan, who entered the final round by scoring 338.85 points for second position.
Noemi Batki of Italy, who entered the semi-final as 15th best diver, geared up her efforts in the second round and clinched third position with a score of 320.75 points. Batki was just 1.20 points ahead of Carolina Mendoza, who sustained her fourth
finest spot of the event by accomplishing 319.95 points.
In the meantime, Roseline Filion of Canada demonstrated her wonderful skills and improved her position by achieving fifth qualifying position with an effort of 317.00 points.
The sixth finest spot of the race was earned by Christin Steuer of Germany, who failed to maintain her third best position in the second round and notched up 315.25 points.
Similarly, the Russian veteran Yulia Koltunova also stayed unsuccessful in maintaining her second position and grabbed seventh position in the final round. Koltunova remained 1.50 points behind her former finisher and obtained a total of 314.75 points.
The eighth best spot of the event was secured by Mexico’s Tatiana Ortiz, who was just 0.40 points behind her preceding competitor and gained 314.35 points.
The arena went wild with the commendable efforts of all participants in the semi-final of 10m discipline. In addition, Ruolin’s scintillating form in the second round has aroused hopes of her fans, which are eager to see her win the title of the event.
