Chen Yuekun extends his winning run to surge into Men’s Singles semi-final at Thailand Open 2012
China’s impressive young shuttler Chen Yuekun continued his staggering run as he secured his place in Men’s Singles semi-final after defeating India’s Sai Praneeth B. at the quarter-final showdown at Thailand Open GP Gold 2012 on Friday, June 8, at Bangkok,
Thailand.
The un-seeded Yuekun, who has been impressive in all of his matches in the tournament, played flawless badminton in the quarter-final battle and sent his Indian opponent packing by winning the fight in straight games.
The in-form Chinese played mature badminton and showed an impressive temperament in the court that helped him to wind up the match in straight games with a comprehensive margin on the score board.
On the other hand, Praneeth put in all of his skills but failed to overpower his talented Chinese opponent in the whole fight and bowed down to him in two games without putting up considerable resistance.
In the opening game, Yuekun showed his elevated skills and took an early lead. However, his opponent was also playing competitive badminton and remained close at the initial stage.
The Chinese injected more power into his well placed shots and managed to take a considerable advantage until the end of opening half by reaching at 11-7.
After the break, the Indian played aggressive badminton but could not destroy the incredible defence of his Chinese opponent who was quite smooth in the court.
Yuekun did not face any trouble throughout the opening game and bagged it with a convincing 21-15 margin on the board.
In the following game, Praneeth showed his class by playing attacking badminton and also remained close until to his Chinese rival until the one-minute interval.
After the break, Praneeth remained equal to his rival on the score board until 16-16. However, he failed to maintain his speed in the court and started to play wrong shots.
On the other hand, the shot selection of the Chinese was impressive who took over the control at the ending phase and won the set with a margin of 21-17.
The in-form Yuekun overpowered Praneeth in two games with an impressive 21-15 and 21-17 score on the board.
