Cheng Shao Chieh slaughters Aiying Xing to land title berth at Singapore Open Super Series
Chinese Taipei’s Cheng Shao Chieh shut the mouths of her critics by putting up a spectacular performance in Women’s Singles semi-final battle of Singapore Open Super Series 2012 when she ousted the local opponent Aiying Xing at Singapore Indoor Arena, on
Saturday, June 23.
Shao Chieh, who has been proving her mettle against all opponents in her way at Singapore Open, continued her roller-coaster run in the semi-final and toppled her lower ranked Singaporean in an impressive manner.
The fourth seeded Shao Chieh, who is number 13 in the world rankings at the moment, had to work extra hard in the opening set and won it with a tight margin. However, she was everywhere in the court in the second game and took it easily with a huge difference.
The local shuttler Aiying, who has been showing her impressive skills against many top shuttlers in her previous matches, failed to continue her killing run in the tournament as she could not cope up with the speed and perfection of her Taipei opponent and
lost the battle in straight sets.
In the first game, both ladies put up a sensational show of power play in opening rallies as they took the bird early and executed powerful smashes to earn a reasonable lead but no one could establish gap until the one-minute interval.
After the mid-game break, Aiying did not let her higher ranked opponent to take advantage at any stage in the concluding half until the score reached at 20-20.
The Singaporean played impressive badminton at this stage and took a point to reach at the set-point but failed to finish it as her Taipei rival came from behind and took the set with a 23-21 score on the board.
In the following set, it was Shao Chieh who did not spare any chance for her local opponent to play aggressive badminton this time. Her powerful strokes troubled Aiying who completely lost her focus in the court.
The Taipei lady sailed smoothly in the second game and won it with a one-sided score of 21-7.
Shao Chieh wrapped up victory in this Women’s Singles semi-final battle with a 23-21 and 21-7 score on the board.
