Cheng Shao Chieh trounces Sayaka Sato to ease into Women’s Singles semi-final at Singapore Open
Cheng Shao Chieh, the talented shuttler from Chinese Taipei, made her presence felt as she eased into Women’s Singles semi-final after trouncing Japan’s Sayaka Sato in quarter-final showdown in Singapore Open Super Series on Friday, June 22, in Singapore.
The World Number 13 Shao Chieh, who has been placed at number four in Women’s Singles seeding of the event, showed her class against the seventh seeded Sayaka and won the contest in an easy fashion.
The higher ranked Taipei lady was in complete control of the pace throughout the contest and she thrashed the World Number 14 Sayaka in two sets with a huge margin on the score board.
The lower ranked Sayaka, on the other hand, could not display her remarkable skills in the court as she faced an aggressive opponent and failed to cope up with the pace of rallies in the whole contest and ended up by losing the match in straight games.
In the first game, both ladies played to their best speed but it was Shao Chieh who put variations in her shots and her impressive drives pushed Sayaka in all corners of the court.
Until the one-minute interval in the opening set of this quarter-final battle, it was the Taipei shuttler who took a smart lead of 11-7 on the score board.
After the break, the Japanese played aggressive badminton and earned a few points by executing powerful smashes but failed to bridge the gap.
In the meanwhile, Shao Chieh was focused in the court and she did not waste any chance to stretch her lead and won the set with a 21-15 score on the board.
In the second set, Shao Chieh was on a completely different level as she played flawless badminton against her Japanese rival and set up a smashing lead of 11-2 until the one-minute interval.
After the mid-game break, the Taipei lady remained consistent in her roller-coaster performance in the court and bagged the second set with a huge margin of 21-8.
Shao Chieh emerged as the winner of this lopsided battle in straight sets with a 21-15 and 21-8 score on the board.
