Cheng Shao Chieh wins Women’s Singles title at the 2011 World University Games – Badminton news
Cheng Shao Chieh, the most talented shuttler of Taiwan (Chinese Taipei) clinched the Women’s Singles title as she crushed her team-mate, Pai Hsiao Ma in the final of the 2011 World University Games, in China, on Monday, August 22.
Shao Chieh, who is currently placed at Number 8 in the Women’s Singles world rankings, played to her full potential to chuck out her compatriot in a straight-set match which lasted for 39 minutes. The higher ranked, Shao Chieh showed her class and bagged
the gold medal with a wonderful performance.
In the opening set, Shao Chieh opened the game with a stunning speed as she quickly established her grip over the pace of the game. Her smooth movement in all areas of the court helped her in executing strokes wherever she wanted. Until the interval in the
opening game, she was leading with a margin of 11-8.
Hsiao Ma accelerated her speed in the second-half of the game and drew near to her opponent by reaching at 14-15. However, the World Number Eight increased her speed in the concluding phase of the opening set and finished it with the margin of 21-18, in
21 minutes.
In the second set of the match, Shao Chieh played with aggression as she was hitting the bird hard to put more pressure on her challenger, who was also playing good badminton. The fight was quite interesting for the Chinese crowd as both shuttlers were maintaining
a high level in the game. Shao Chieh was heading towards the destination by reaching at 11-8 in the first half.
The following half of the second game was quite interesting for the crowd as Shao Chieh injected power and speed in her strokes. She became quicker in moving around in the court. She showed no mercy in the concluding phase of the second game and won it with
a margin of 21-15.
The Women’s Singles final match ended in 39 minutes with the victory of Shao Chieh by the margin of 21-18 and 21-15.
