Cheng Wen Hsing - Chien Yu Chin enter into Women’s Doubles quarter-final: Japan Open Super Series
Chinese Taipei’s top seeds, Cheng Wen Hsing and Chien Yu Chin reserved a quarter-final berth after defeating Japan’s Yonemoto Koharu and Yuriko Miki in the Women’s Doubles round-of-16 on the 2011 Yonex Japan Open Super Series, in Tokyo, on Thursday, September
22.
Wen Hsing and Yu China are currently ranked at Number Five in the Women’s Doubles world rankings. They had to dig deep into their reserves to beat the passionate local shuttlers, who put up a strong resistance in front of their home crowd. However, the higher
ranked Taipei duo showed their class and won the battle in the three games of 46 minutes.
The first game of this Men’s Double contest was very interesting for the Japanese crowd, as Koharu and Miki dominated the pace of the rallies in the whole opening set. They left no room for the visitors to score points and reached 11-7 at the end of the
first-half.
In the second-half of the first game, the Japanese duo continued their positive and fast game against the higher ranked Taipei shuttlers. Wen Hsing and Yu Chin failed to stop the aggressive run of the local opponents and lost the set in 17 minutes, with
the margin of 14-21.
The fifth seeded Wen Hsing and Yu Chin played a different game in the following set, as they controlled the rallies at the net and also put up a wonderful show of powerful smashes from the rear-court area. They finished-off the second game in remarkable
fashion by winning it with a 21-14 margin in 16 minutes.
The third set was a completely one-sided affair, as the Taipei ladies thrashed the local shuttlers in a stunning way. They played phenomenal badminton in this Women’s Doubles fight and won the deciding set with a surprising margin of 21-7, in just 13 minutes.
The round-of-16 match concluded after the impressive win of the Taipei duo, as they ended the encounter in three sets of 46 minutes by a wonderful margin of 14-21, 21-14 and 21-7.
