Chennai Super Kings and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 cricketer Albie Morkel considers compatriot Lance Klusener as his idol and says that he wants to imitate him in his career.
The South African says that he will be content with himself if he is able to achieve half of what Klusener has achieved during his cricketing career.
Lance Klusener was known as a big hitter of the cricket ball during his playing days. Morkel himself is known for his explosive hitting and is considered a deadly batsman in the death overs.
Morkel admitted that hitting boundaries it is not as easy as it seems. He further said that he needs to focus hard on his cricket so that he can fully utilise the limited number of deliveries that come his way.
Apart from clearing boundaries easily, Morkel is also a very handy bowler. However, he is not express like fellow countrymen http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Dale-c52110 Steyn who clocks at around 150 km/h regularly. Morkel is fully aware of this fact and thus uses variation in bowling speed to
deceive the batsmen especially on Indian pitches which can be cruel to pace bowlers.
“Lance Klusener is one of my idols. If I can be half the player he was, I will be happy, it is not easy to hit in the end overs. I had to practice hard. I am not a 145km/h bowler. So I need to use a lot of variations. When there is a bit of swing around,
it does help a bit but when the ball goes straight, it becomes a bit tough,” said the CSK all-rounder.
Morkel has been an integral part of CSK in the ongoing fourth edition of the Indian Premier League. He, along with Australian Doug Bollinger, is the leading wicket taker for the Super Kings with 10 wickets. He is also slowly returning to his batting form
as well.
He was instrumental in the win against Deccan Chargers when he blasted 19 runs off just 6 deliveries and later in the innings took 3 wickets from his quota of 4 overs. With the win, CSK kept their chances of qualifying for the knockout phase alive as they
are now on fourth spot in the points table.
CSK skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mahendra-Singh-Dhoni-c73820 praised Morkel’s contribution in the game against the Chargers. He considers him an asset for the team and pronounces that it is because of players like him and Subramaniam Badrinath that the Super Kings cut lose in last
five overs while other teams target last couple of overs.
Dhoni said, “Albie really finished the game well today. Lots of teams put emphasis in the last six, we look to capitalise on the last 4-5 overs. Even if me and [Srikkanth] Anirudha are not able to do it, Albie and Badri [Subramaniam Badrinath] manages to
do it in the end and ends up with a healthy strike rate.”
The Super Kings are up against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rajasthan-c837 Royals on Wednesday, May 4, 2011 at home. If they are able to win, they will snatch the number three spot from Rajasthan Royals.
