Chennai Super Kings - the Champions of Champions
Indian test captain http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757.
CSK has had a wonderful 2010 after they won the Indian Premier League earlier in the year by edging out the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mumbai-c820 Indians in the final which was their second IPL title in the last three years.
They were on top of their game in the CLT20 as they capped off the tournament with a crushing victory in the final.
The one-sided final took the gloss away from what was otherwise an exciting tournament as the hosts Warriors caved in under the pressure of the big occasion.
The CSK spinners choked the Warriors with a brilliant performance led by Mr. 800 http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Muttiah-Muralitharan-c78157, who is the highest wicket-taker in test and ODI cricket.
He was ably supported by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/R-Ashwin-c2228, who despite being his understudy, made full use of the opportunity in the big match, establishing his credentials as a future Indian international prospect.
Chennai was the best team in the tournament and was led by a powerful batting line-up. Even in the final game, it was Mike Hussey and test opener http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Murali-Vijay-c78035 who fired them to an imposing start in the final, scoring breathtaking half centuries to guide their team through to the title.
Suresh Raina was also pivotal to their chances in the tournament, scoring some crucial runs besides taking four wickets in the match against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Australia-c844 that was lost by CSK in the super over.
He scored a brilliant and at times savage 92 run innings in the semi-final of the tournament hitting as many as 6 sixes in his knock.
Raina has had an outstanding year. He made a brilliant test debut against the Sri Lankans, scoring a hundred in the second test before leading the way with an attacking fifty that gave the tourists a series leveling win.
He was the architect of his team’s triumph and is being touted as a superstar for the Super Kings in the years to come.
Davey Jacobs, the captain for the Warriors, who were at their meekest in the final of the tournament, admitted that they were simply outplayed by the Super Kings.
"We have to give credit where it's due, it's not just that we screwed up," he said. "Their two spinners really tied us down. Ashwin is a quality bowler and Murali is world class," http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jacobs-c65213 added.
He felt that the match was lost early on in the piece when his openers and the top order, including himself, failed to deliver the final punch.
"We didn't really have a strategy to attack them and when we lost one or two wickets, we tried to get some momentum and take them on, but it wasn't our night," he said.
"We thought we'd give him a go since he was playing against his IPL team," he said about his decision to open the bowling with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Makhaya-Ntini-c73953.
Jacobs, who was one of the successes of the tournament with his clean, uncluttered approach to batting, claimed that the loss was a big disappointment for his young team.
"We are very disappointed. If someone had told us before that we would lose in the final, we would have taken it, but once we got here we wanted to win,”
Meanwhile, the tournament turned out to be a big success as the leading clubs around the world fought for glory and proved that this format of the game was getting more and more popular around the world. This is where the future of the game is.
