Chennai Super Kings v Rajasthan Royals: second innings report – Part 2
Needing 75 runs from 60 deliveries with nine wickets in hand the Chennai Super Kings were in a dominant position to go on and beat the Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League encounter at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.
Nayan Doshi looked to tip the odds more in the bowling side’s favour when he ran in to bowl the 11th over, but the now settled batting pair of Michael Hussey and Suresh Raina was in a defiant mood. Both players were set and looking very good as
they played some elegant strokes around the ground.
The pair smashed Doshi for a brilliant 19 runs with both Hussey and Raina sending the ball flying over the ropes and into the jam packed crowd for six.
It was just what the Super Kings needed as they now needed 56 runs from 54 deliveries. Shane Warne was getting desperate and brought in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Johan-Botha-c67173 to bowl the 12th over. The South African did a tidy job and only gave away five runs, but the time
for restricting the batsmen was over and wickets were the need of the hour. The Royal’s were desperate to break the tremendous partnership of Hussey and Raina.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Stuart-Binny-c2589 went for two fours in the next over that ultimately cost 12 expensive runs and put the match firmly in the Super Kings’ favour, as the batting side needed 39 runs with 42 deliveries in which to get them.
Both Hussey and Raina reached their half centuries in the over after a fine display of batting from the players.
Warne and Shane Watson bowled the next two overs giving away just nine runs between them but the lack of bite in the Royals’ bowling attack meant that all their efforts were going to waste.
Hussey seemed to want to get the match over with as he went on the offensive against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ashok-c46345 Menaria, smashing the bowler for two consecutive boundaries as the Royals’ body language began to show signs of accepting the impending defeat.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Watson-c96326 bowled the last of his allotted four overs giving away only four runs, before Trivedi claimed Raina’s wicket in the 19th over when excitement seemed to get the better of the batsman.
Mis-timing his shot, the ball took an edge off Raina’s glove and flew straight to Botha at slip. Raina had done his job, as his 61 run knock and 135 run partnership with Hussey had pretty much wrapped up the match by then.
Hussey smashed the next delivery for four to complete the chase as the Chennai Super Kings ran out convincing winners on the night beating the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rajasthan-c837 Royals by eight wickets with eight deliveries to spare.
