Chennai Super Kings vs. Pune Warriors: Albie Morkel shines as the Warriors fall short by 25 runs
Chennai Super Kings have defeated Pune Warriors by a comprehensive margin of 25 runs in an important fixture of the Indian Premier League in Chennai.
The credit goes to the home team’s bowlers as they defended a mediocre total with ease against a strong batting line-up.
The visitors were off to a promising start in pursuit of their target of 143 runs as Jesse Ryder played a couple of astonishing shots. However, the Warriors lost way miserably and were 4 down for just 40 runs in the 6th over of the innings.
Captain of Pune Yuvraj Singh and middle order batsman Mithun Manhas took control of the situation from there onwards and rescued the visitors’ innings to an extent. Singh and Manhas scored 38 runs for the 5th wicket but considering the situation
of the game, it was not enough by any means.
As a result, the Warriors managed only 117 runs in their 20 overs for the loss of 9 wickets and feel short by a handsome margin.
Yuvraj was not his usual self as he played a sedate innings but he still remained the top scorer for Pune as he made 34 runs off 43 balls with the help of a couple of boundaries. Manhas on the other hand scored 20 off 23 deliveries which included a massive
six.
Star of the show for the Super Kings was the South African all-rounder Albie Morkel who picked up 3 crucial wickets for just 29 runs in his 4 overs. Doug Bollinger and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ravichandran-Ashwin-c84208 were equally effective as they claimed a couple of cheap scalps each.
Michael Hussey was named as the Man of the Match for his brilliant innings earlier in the day which turned out to be the difference between the two sides.
Although Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s men bowled really well but the Warriors should be extremely disappointed with this result as they have a strong batting line-up on paper and should have chased down the total without much problem.
On the other side, Chennai Super Kings’ confidence would be sky high and they would love to carry the same momentum in their upcoming fixtures.
