Chennai captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni warns his teammates against complacency
Chennai Super Kings’ skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mahendra-Singh-Dhoni-c73820, is enormously delighted over his team’s sixth consecutive victory at their own backyard, MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, last night. However, he asked his teammates not be complacent and continue with
good work in the upcoming matches.
After defeating http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Delhi-c780 Daredevils by 18 runs in an Indian Premier League match on Thursday, May 12, 2011, the Super Kings have jumped up to the top position on the season’s points table.
After electing to bat first, CSK posted a challenging score of 176, courtesy of brutal batting by Dhoni and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Subramaniam-Badrinath-c91587 in the death overs.
In response, the Daredevils, who were playing without their injured regular skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Venugopal-Rao-c2752 gave them some hope by putting together a classy 43-run
partnership in the middle of the innings, the stand-in skipper James Hopes was not able to carry the momentum forward to the end.
Dhoni, who smashed a thrilling 31-ball 63, won the player-of-the-match award. He expressed complete satisfaction over his players’ performance in the game but at the same time, he asked them not to get carried away with the win and keep working hard.
"It's good thing that we have been winning at home. But that doesn't mean that we can't lose at home. We have to be aware that a team can have a good day and beat us. We have to accept that with an open mind also," Dhoni said.
Heaping praise on top-order batsmen, Michael Hussey and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Murali-Vijay-c78035, for laying a fantastic foundation, the Indian wicket-keeper batsman cited team-effort as the main reason behind Chennai’s success in the ongoing competition.
"We have always looked at scoring seven or seven and half runs an over in the initial phase. That gives us an ideal platform to accelerate and score around 65-70 runs in the last six or seven overs. So credit should got to our top-order batsmen for providing
us that platform," the skipper added.
When asked about his own blistering innings against DD, Dhoni described that he went to the crease with an intention to attack from the first ball and fortunately the strategy worked for him.
