Champions League T20, Chennai v Wayamba Preview: Chennai favourites to win again:
The Match
Chennai Super Kings will take on Wayamba in the ninth game of the Champions League T20 tournament on 15 September. The match will start at 1530 hours GMT and will be the second of the day after the Central Districts-http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Victoria-c859 encounter.
Chennai Super Kings won their first game of the tournament against the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Central-Districts-c777, while Wayamba lost to the Warriors. A win for Chennai will give them their second win in as many games, and almost certainly dump Wayamba out of the tournament. However, if Wayamba win, it could make for an interesting points table, given that one of Central Districts and Victoria will also have one win from two games.
The Pitch:
The match will be played at the Centurion, which is one of the better batting strips than most of the other venues. This will assist the batsmen from both teams, especially given that it is the two Indian sub-continent teams featuring in the game. Both, Chennai and Wayamba did have difficulties in adjusting to the pace and the bounce of the tracks in the previous game, but this should work better for them.
Chennai:
Chennai started poorly in their last game after they lost three early wickets. The extra bounce had caused some problems for the side. But with the opposition in this game, Wayamba, not expected to have too many bowlers who can get too much pace or bounce, things will be better for the likes of Murali Vijay and Suresh Raina.
Matthew Hayden did not have a great start to the tournament either and he will look to overcome that duck that he got against the Central Stags.
The Playing Eleven:
Matthew Hayden, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/R-Ashwin-c2228, Doug Bollinger
Players to watch out for:
Captain Dhoni did not bat in the first match because of a supposed viral infection, but he will look to overcome the issues and take on the Sri Lankan side’s bowlers.
Wayamba:
Wayamba goes into the game with expectations from arguably their best batsman in the line-up, Mahela Jayawardene, who had got out for a duck in the previous encounter. Jayawardene had been responsible in getting the side to the Champions League T20 as he had smacked a century in the final of the qualifiers.
However, what Jayawardene needs is for at least one batsman to stay with him through the duration of the innings; unlike the previous game where the batsmen failed to support the only one who batted well – Jeevantha Kulatunga.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ajantha-c42419 Mendis and Rangana Herath will be the two bowlers who will be used to tie the opposition down.
The Playing Eleven:
Mahela Jayawardene, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jehan-Mubarak-c66822, Mahela Udawatte, Kushal Perera, Jeevantha Kulatunga, Thisara Perera, Rangana Herath, Ajantha Mendis, Chanaka Welegedara, Farveez Maharoof, Isuru Udana
Players to watch out for:
How captain Mubarak handles his side will set the tone for how the Wayamba side goes about their business.
