You don't say to which city in NZ so I'll base details as if you're flying to Auckland.

I'm unaware of any scheduled direct flights between Chennai and NZ. Singapore Airlines have a number of flights which stop just once in Singapore (Changi) and the length of the stopover varies, but the shortest one means that Chennai to Auckland takes 16 hours and 15 minutes with a transfer to another plane, this includes the 2 hours and 20 minutes transfer at Changi. Flight numbers are SQ529 and SQ281. If you want a longer stop in Singapore there's another flight with a 14hr 45min stop at Changi (SQ529 & SQ285) taking a total of 28hr 30min and the longest is a two-stop flight where you change at Changi and then Sydney (Australia) and takes 32h 15min (SQ529, 14h 10min stop @ Changi, SQ221, 3h 35min stop @ Sydney, finally SQ6836 code share with Air New Zealand).

EDIT: They also fly to Christchurch, Queenstown and Wellington and some of the flight times are very slightly shorter.
