Chepstow meeting subject to inspection
Freezing temperatures might disrupt races at Chepstow on Friday, February 3, 2012. The course will be inspected before the organisers come up with any final decision. At the moment, frost covers are on, as the weather is expected to get colder.
The organisers at Chepstow are hopeful that the races go on as per schedule, but they will have to wait for the conditions to improve.
Clerk of the track, Keith Otteson stated, “We have called a precautionary inspection based on the forecast which tells us we are going to get down to -3C or -4C on the next two nights.”
He further went onto say, “We will be racing at 1.30pm on Friday so it makes sense to assess things at that time on Thursday. The frost covers are doing a job at the moment but some exposed areas are affected and the temperature hasn't got much above
freezing this morning.”
Chepstow is scheduled to host seven races tomorrow. The first one will be the National Hunt Novices’ Hurdle (Qualifier), which has attracted 15 runners. It will be quite an interesting event and the spectators worldwide will be looking forward to it.
Five-year-old horse, Danandy, will be expected to win the hurdle. He has entered one National Hunt race in his career until now and emerged victorious in it. His trainer, Philip Hobbs, will also be hopeful of a strong show tomorrow.
The other event, which has attracted 15 entries is, the Bristol Evening Post Handicap Hurdle. It will be the fourth race of the day, and the spectators will be expecting some thrilling battle between their favourite horses.
Veteran trainer, David Pipe, has entered two of his horses, Quinte Du Chatelet and Painter Man, for this hurdle. Both have plenty of experience, and will be eying a strong run tomorrow.
There will be another important race in the day, Lindley Catering Handicap Chase, which will see 11 horses run in it. The day will be summed up with the National Hunt Flat Race, which includes 10 entries.
Overall, there will be plenty of excitement and entertainment at Chepstow tomorrow, but the weather is a big threat. The organisers will be trying their level best to get everything in order before the inspection at the course.
