I have an English bank account and wondered if it is OK to write a cheque out in another currency. For instance, could I send a cheque to someone in the US for $20 or one to Hong Kong for 20 HK dollars?

  1. no you would have to pay them through bankers draft

  2. You can only write a cheque in the currency of the account, in this case presumably sterling.

If you can't pay by visa or mastercard you can get a foriegn draft from your bank, just go in & give them the payees name,  the amount & relevant crrency & they will order it for you.

  3. No, not if it is a Sterling bank account which it most probably is.
