  1. i always here people claim chereokee, whatever, find some research on it

  2. Be careful about "claiming" Cherokee heritage. If everyone in the US who claims to be Cherokee descendants really were, it would be the largest single ethnicity here.

  3. My wife and I have 2 Yahoo groups that may be able to help you more than just posting a website here...

How can I honor my Native ancestors if you won't share your religion with me?" The answer is simple: honor them the way they would want to be honored. Don't pay some new-age guru $250 to perform fake "Native American" rituals that would have offended your ancestors, go physically to their tribe and re-connect with their other descendants. It will be hard work convincing the people there that you are genuine but if you go with humility and patience you will eventually be accepted, and that is the ONLY way you will ever become part of the spiritual tradition you desire. There is no shortcut to that. Native spirituality belongs only to the cultural group, and anyone who tells you otherwise is trying to make some money off of you and/or to take a power trip at your expense.

You've been warned. Good luck, with whatever it is you're looking for. You're probably going to need it.

  4. honestly,(and I'm saying this kindly) you're not going to find much on Cherokee traditions online. You'll find a bunch of made up c**p about native culture on line but its pretty much all worthless. The only site I trust for authentic Tsalagi culture is cherokee.org site or the Qualla Reservation site.  I don't recall that address, sorry.

Authentic tribal traditions are handed down orally by an elder. What you need to do my friend is to find your family on one of the rolls, enroll, become a member of the tribe and then find and elder willing to teach you. I know its an arduous journey but well worth it if you have the courage and the willingness to do so.

You can find some traditional things on www.cherokee.org and you'll want to take classes in the language as well.  You'll find like myself and many others, is that our culture and heritage is preserved in the language.  Also, you can find some ancient teachings preserved by James Moody at sacredtexts.org

    Good luck.
