So it's not just me. I have terrible luck with the large tomatoes, but plenty of fruit bearing cherry tomato plants.

  1. Cherry tomatoes!  They can grow up at random, anywhere!  They are sweeter and are perfect in salads!  Larger tomatoes that are homegrown have a much thicker skin.  Although if you turn them over the fire of your stove for a few, the skin will roll right off!

  2. well my friend grows some tomatoes (both kind) and from what i see the smaller ones grow faster then the bigger kind, and has more of it at once.

  3. The one that produces the most fruit is the one that is planted on "good ground" and given "Water" and a good supply of "Son".

  4. Cherry tomatoes produce more fruit, it takes less time and energy to produce a smaller fruit.  A cherry tomato plant will also need less space, although all my tomato plants, of all varieties, spread out way more than I'd like.

  5. The Cherry tomatoes are disease resistance, and will continue to grow when others are wilting from blight.  They will be your first plants to bear fruit, and they will produce all season long.  For large tomato we prefer  Mr. Stripy, We plant both varieties in our garden.

  6. In my garden cherry tom. grow faster and more of them.

  7. cherry tomatoes are easier to grow and produce more fruit

( obliviously, the cherry tomato is a greatly smaller size )

  8. Cherry will produce fewer kg of fruits in most situations.

There are situations where the cherry will produce more fruit (kg).

The cherry can ripen fruits with fewer hours of sunlight, so in the north, or among buildings, you may get more fruit.

If you have a big problem with snails and slugs, they will still eat the cherry tomatoes, but will not damage a whole kg of tomato by eating one.  Likewise those horned tomato caterpillars can do major harm quickly with large tomatoes.

If your problem with tomato is that they are not ripening early enough, you may be giving them too much nitrogen fertilizer.

Also, for larger tomatoes keeping them up off the ground is more critical.

I find that growing 2 varieties, one a determinate, one an indeterminate variety works best. The indeterminate gives me a long harvest season while the determinate brings on one heavy harvest season. controlling pests during a short harvest season is less effort in total but very critical to do it early in the fruiting period.

If a determinate tomato is not ripe when frost comes, it is a total loss. But planning to be able to harvest most of them within a week is so attractive to plan using them. Having an indeterminate tomato gives that long harvest season that keeps us picking ripe tomatoes for 8 to 10 weeks, and that means eating them all late summer and fall.

But, those tomatoes one harvests in fall do not taste nearly as good as ones that have never been in cold . It is like putting tomatoes in the fridge, which really spoils the flavour.

  9. it depends on how you take care of your plant.the better you take care of your plants the more veggies you will have.

  10. I have had GREAT luck with Cherry tomatoes this year.  More than I can eat.  I have a lot of big tomatoes to, but they aren't turnng red, staying green this year.

Last year, it was the opposite.  Better luck with the big tomatoes.

Overall though, I think the cherry tomatoes are easier.
