Cheshire took a comfortable victory over Herefordshire by 94 runs in a match of the Minor Counties Championship 2011, at the Stowe Lane, Colwall in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013, on Tuesday, June 14, 2011.
The hosts had to chase down 345 runs for victory, but they were bowled out for 250 on the final day’s play.
Cheshire captain, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Andrew-James-Hall-c44408, opted to bat first after the coin flipped in favour of his team. He expected the pitch to be conducive for batting and his batsmen didn’t disappoint at all, as they piled up 300/6 before the innings was declared. The highlight
of the innings was an unbeaten 98 runs from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Richard-Malcolm-Wilkinson-c85209.
The visitors went off to a terrific start, courtesy a 96-run partnership between their openers, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Warren-Melville-Goodwin-c96242 and Jonathan Kettle. The pair batted exceptionally well and at a decent run-rate. Kettle was the first man to be dismissed in the innings after
collecting 47 runs and was followed by his opening partner, who ended up with 62.
A few quick wickets fell after that, but Wilkinson steadied the ship alongside http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Richard-James-Logan-c85107. Both batsmen played nicely, scoring 78 runs for the sixth wicket partnership. However, the latter missed-out on a half-century and was dismissed for 42 runs.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Daniel-Oliver-Berry-c52322. The pair scored an unbeaten 64 runs for the seventh wicket stand.
The bulk of the runs in the partnership came off the bat of Wilkinson, who scored 98 runs off 114 balls with the help of nine fours and four thunderous sixes.
The bowlers went for quite a lot of runs, but http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bradley-Lewis-Wadlan-c48301 did a decent job, picking up three wickets.
Herefordshire were unable to respond well, as they got off to a very bad start in their first outing. The team lost six wickets for just 118 runs on the board and looked in deep trouble.
However, lower-order batsman, Daniel Vernon, scored a quick fire 51 runs from 47 balls, smashing eight fours. He remained unbeaten before the innings was declared at 233 for eight.
Logan was in good form with the ball, picking up a couple of wickets.
Cheshire played really well in their second innings as well, scoring 277 runs for seven, before the declaration came. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/James-Alexander-Duffy-c65414 was the top scorer in the innings with 86 runs.
Vernon, who earlier did a good job with the bat for his team, took four wickets.
The hosts were given a target of 345 runs, but they failed to achieve it despite a brilliant ton by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Stephen-John-Adshead-c91125. He ended up being the top scorer in the game, scoring 109 runs, but his effort went in vain as the entire team was bowled out for 250.
Logan was once again impressive with the ball, taking three wickets this time around.
