Chesil Beach Boy set to shine at Sandown – Imperial Cup Preview
Perpetuating his excellent success streak of three consecutive victories, Chesil Beach Boy is expected to demonstrate a big run again today, March 10 at Sandown racecourse and notch up the title of Paddy Power Imperial Cup Handicap Hurdle.
John Coombe’s young bay gelding is going to take on his 23 worthy rivals in the Class 1 contest of 2m110y distance. With huge prize money worth £34,170, the high-stakes event will start at 3:15 (GMT).
It is supposed to be a heated competition as most of the horse’s opponents possesses enough momentum and talent.
Chesil Beach Boy stands above all due to his outstanding track record. Since making his debut in May 2008, the nine-year-old dashing runner has been performing consistently and winning regularly.
After bagging his maiden victory in December 2011, the Chris Pugsley-owned gelding went on to win a couple of consecutive races during the first month of 2012.
Being an 11-10 favourite, he finished first in an important contest at Wincanton on January 7. He stroke again with full force and clinched top spot in his last outing at the same track on January 21, completing the first every hat-trick of his career.
As a whole, the brilliant horse has run for 9 times to date. Currently, he is awash with form which will surely lend a great hand to him when he runs today at Sandown. His chances to finish first are more than 80 percent.
However, two of his rivals including Ile De Re and Ciceron can give him rather tough time during the mega marathon.
Ile De Re is on a hat-trick. The Ian Williams-trained veteran gelding won two back-to-back races during the first two months of the calendar year. He was a favourite for both these events. Overall, the talented horse has won 6 out of his total 29 outings
to date.
On the other hand, Ciceron has 7 triumphs to his credit. Venetia Williams’ bay gelding marvellously finished first in his first outing of the calendar year on January 7. Prior to this, he had bagged a couple of consecutive victories during January-February
2011.
Along with this duo, the trio of Johns Spirit, Ted Spread and Sire De Grugy also look to be in good form. They will also be able to perform well in the race.
Thus, there is anticipated a rip-roaring competition at Sandown today. Victory will definitely be a hard nut to crack for Chesil Beach Boy. Let us see how he struggles for success. Good luck to the gelding.
