  1. you realize there are people who study chess their entire lives?  If there were "unbeatable techniques" then everyone would already be using them.  Just practice, that's all.  maybe get a book on chess for beginners if you really want to improve.

  2. Some helpful hints...

Use your Knights early in the game, when they have an advantage moving around.

Focus on controlling the 16 center squares.  Make your opponent move around the perimeter.

Cover your pieces by protecting them with another one.

Don't be too quick to push your pawns up the board.

Take your opponent's pawns whenever possible, especially early on.  The longer the game goes, the more valuable they become.

    I hope these help.

  3. Yup, everyone has know the secret for hundreds of years but refuse to tell you.:)

Seriously, go in raw, record your games then we can analyze what you did wrong that let him beat you.

Yes, you learn more from losses than from wins.  You can't very well look at what he didn't do to you.

    otherwise

    Control the center

    Knights before Bishops

    Knight on rim is grim

Castle early and often  (second part is a joke, you can only castle once)

All the above are correct except when they are wrong.

  4. There are no unbeatable techniques...

To win at a chess tournament is not really difficult. To be truthful, I recently played, last Saturday, in the 49th National Individuals (Singapore), and I won 6/7 games. I got the silver medal. :D

Even though there are no unbeatable techniques, there are strategies that you can use. Try "My System" by Aaron Nimzowitsch. I think that it really helped me alot. A month before the competition, I brought this book around, everywhere I went, and analysed the moves. This book contains 50 of Nimzowitsch's games, and they are really overwhelming. For your information, Nimzowitsch was ever world champion, and every single FideMaster/Grandmaster/WomenFideMaster has a copy of "My System".

You should also try getting a personal coach. For me, I was in the National Squad, training 7 hours a week and playing at least 40 games a week. My personal trainer was Mr Olimpiu G Urcan, a dedicated chess historian.

"Failure is the mother of success" If you never lose, you will never win as well. I was a 'n00b' at the game, and ever lost EVERY SINGLE GAME in a tournament. After that, I did not become discouraged. Instead, I was determined to win. I went home and analysed the 9 games that I lost, and found out that I was too careless, leaving my king open and vulnerable to attacks.

The best opening moves in chess are e4 and d4, and in the endgame, I always aim for back rank checkmate or double rook checkmate as they are the least complicated, and the most difficult to prevent.

Chess is a matter of experience and time. You need to dedicate yourself to it by spending time on it everyday, not simply playing and losing and being disheartened.

    Good luck! :D
