Chess Websites?

Question

Anyone know of some really good free chess websites to play chess? I have just started playing again, even though I haven't played in at least 10 years. I know yahoo games is not bad but is there anything else? Thanks

As far as I know, Yahoo chess is the best.  If you want, try out club pogo - http://board-games.pogo.com/games/chess - making an account is free, but the site is LOADED with advertisements.  If you want to play correspondence chess (chess with long move time controls) I recommend you try out http://gameknot.com/ - few advertisements and lots of options (includes a free opening database, user supplied puzzles, teams, leagues and clubs).

wow.. I hate stupid people. He clearly said that he knew yahoo games had it. He wants other options. Bro.. just google it, thats what just about everyone in here is gonna do anyway.

Yahoo games has bugs, blames your computer when their server is down, then has people regularly hacking the chess clock to get unlimited time while you get 5 minutes.

Actually you are asking the right question ... and yes there are better places to play chess online than yahoo.

Free Internet Chess Server (FICS) is a dedicated server for chess.  It has lessons and all kinds of chess related chat.

I takes special software to access/use it.  It might seem a little cumbersome to learn at first, but in the end it is for the serious chess player.
