i believe in this . Every move has to be precise and thought of. But does it relate to chess in that regard? Its a thinking game that tests our capability to dominate the opponent with stragetic manouvers and skills. Just like any other sport it takes practice and experience. But in the end it does test our knoledge as well, as to what moves would be wise to make ad the risks of taking other ones.So overall, is can chess be compared with life and in this regard test our wisdom, or is it just a sport that tests skills and practice?

  1. Chess is a very simplified and stylized wargame; it has nothing to do with real combat or life.

  2. There's a lot in chess that can explain things in life or are analogous to real experiences.

For example, you have to make things happen, they won't just come to you. If you just make little defensive moves in chess, you'll never win. You have to go out and take it if you want success in life.

You have to plan. Always think a few moves ahead. Be prepared for something you didn't see coming. Use all your resources to the best of your ability and you can seize your goals.

Life is a competition, but the difference is that it's not a competition with anybody else. You are playing the black and the white pieces in life. You could say the white pieces are your actions, and the black pieces are your attitude. If you have a positive attitude, and you work as hard as you can to get where you want to be, your life will truly be like a "magnificent chess game".

  3. It's a proven fact that chess enhances math and reading skills.  Both of these skills are very important in making good life decisions.  Chess trains the mind to be more alert and to examine all possible options before making a move.  I think it can very easily campare with life.  It trains us to learn that everything we do triggers advantages or consequences.

Chess is an absolutely beautiful game.

  4. Good philosophical question.

I find that chess discloses more to me about me - about the habits of thought that I have that are otherwise invisible to me (the blind self of the johari window).  Its a mirror with which I can attempt to shave off the stubble of poor habits with the dull razors of willpower, vision, and practice.

    :)

  5. Most people are idiots.  Chess is not like life.  A bishop can have, say 13 possible moves.   A person can have many possible "moves".  Before a chess player moves his opponent must move.  A person can "move" regardless of the "opponent."
