Chess.... so who wins?

Your opponent has set his pieces so that your king is NOT in check but when it's your turn, you cannot move anywhere without being automatically checkmated and naturally lose. If so, does ur opponent win the game, or is a tie? (which is completely crackers, i think)

  1. Some people just will not read what people write in their questions...

NudeSkulL wrote that "your king is NOT in check...", yet even with the capital letters clue, people are saying....well, you must be in check before you move so.. yada yada yada...

As others have pointed out, if you are not in check, but cannot move your king to any other square that is not attacked AND you have no other pieces or pawns to move - this is stalemate and the game is a draw.

At various times and places before the rules were ratified, stalemate was classed as either a loss, a win, a draw or "take back your last move and make another that does not stalemate me".

Nowadays it's a draw. And you have some supporters in the "that rule is crackers" department...

  2. the opponent wins cause if you cant move anywhere, than that's checkmate

  3. ur not in check but u cant move anywhere this is a draw or stalemate as some call it and if its for points u get half and he/she gets half

  4. If you can't move any of your pieces, but you are not in check, it is called a stalemate and is a draw. Hope this helps!!!

  5. This mean that your opponent wins. If u can't move anywhere without being in checkmate, that means it's checkmate. Whoever your playing with probably doesn't know it is. Another thought is if u have other pieces so that u can take away one of your opponent's pieces so u can keep playing or that you can sacrifice somebody so u can keep playing on.

  6. If you have no where else to move the king you would lose and your opponent would win the game but if you had more pieces on the chess board move one of those to open a path to move your king.

  7. It is tie.  That is called a stalemate.

  8. it's called a stalemate,it's a draw

  9. It`s very easy.. if your opponent is a handsome opponent...

    Kiss him.

    You'll win.

  10. Actually, if any of your next moves would result in a Checkmate, your king would previously be in Check, which means you lose, provided that any of your 'next' moves would be a Checkmate.

  11. thats a draw or stalemate because what can you do you cant move already
