About a week ago, I woke up with a sharp stabbing pain in the left of my back when I inhaled deeply. It caused me pain to lie down and turn in the night. It's now been a week and there's still the same pain, in the same place when I inhale deeply. Anyone have any ideas what this could be??!

  1. go to the nearest a &e

  2. Make an appointment with your doctor tomorrow. If you have had it a week then you don't need to be running to A&E in the middle of the night, as some have suggested.

  3. it could be that you cracked a rib.... my mother had this problem a couple of times...all it takes sometimes is to move the wrong way and bang...it happens. there is nothing you can do for this it has to heal on its own 4-6 wks.......... good luck

  4. eewww go see the doctor sounds awful

  5. i think u have got asthama u should check with a doctor he will write u an inhailer and its help full

  6. There are a number of things that can cause this sort of pain, and this question would be better answered at a site like WebMD.

  7. You should really go check it out it could be serious.Sozz dont wanna bring you down.

  8. Well you could have pulled a muscle in your back and it has not had enough time to heal. Or it might be more extreme like you could have cracked a rip and when you inhale it pushes it into your back. But if you really think its serious and it keeps on persisting then go to the Doctor and get a x-ray. Hope you get better.

  9. pneumothorax...collapsed lung i would put money on it iv had it happen 4 times im having an op this month to fix it, get your self to a&e and ill be amazed if im wrong! plase let me no how you get on they will probably jus aspirate wi a needle under local anaesthetic

  10. Could be gas, could be a heart attack.  Go to the Dr ASAP

  11. My fiance had the same thing. You can go to a doctor, and they'll probably give you steroids. They'll help.

It's your ribs, likely. Theirs a point in your ribs that are conjoined by cartilage, and if you twist the wrong way, your cartilage can get swollen, or stiffen, making the expanding of your ribs when you breathe painful.

  12. Dude go see a doctor.  Any pain longer than a day is serious.

  13. You may have a lung or respitory infection.  If it is still hurting, you probably do need to go to the doctor or maybe the hospital.  Get that taken care of hun.  And good luck.

  14. It might be pleurisy, if it is, then you must be in so much pain!

I had pleurisy once, i was sitting outside a pub opposite a hospital, i was in real agony so i went over to the hospital, they took x rays, found nothing & sent me home like i was a mad drunk or something.

Next day i went to see my doc as i thought i was dying & she said it was pleurisy.

There is something called a pleura, which is between your lungs and your ribcage & it has two layers. One layer is on your ribcage & the other is on your lungs. Between these layers, there's a thin layer of liquid that oils the layers to let them move past each other when you breathe in & out. If your pleura is irritated, the two layers become uneven and this oily liquid gets sticky. The pain that you are feeling could be these layers rubbing together.

Go & see your doctor please. Take care.
