Ok so im 13 years old and i have chest pains on the left side down by the end of my bra. It has been going on and off for about a month. But they started up higher and are gradually moving down. I am very nervous about this. I told my mom and she said it could be acid reflex. I will hopefully go to the doctor tommorrow. What should i do and what do you think this is? Thanks

  1. yes your mom might be right.but it could be other problems too.i had chest pains too yesterday, but i think this was due to my too tight around the waist jeans!!but u better have it checked out, cheerios~

  2. Do you wear underwire bras?  This could be pushing into your skin and pinching a nerve or something to cause pain.  Also, you could have a rib out of place that would cause pain when you breathe heavily; you might consider seeing a chiropractor after the doctor rules out anything really serious.

  3. Tell you what, chew an aspirin now.  Chewing it means it get into your system more quickly than swallowing it, it will taste awful so take something you like.  Aspirin does amazing things to help with everything from a cold to chest pain.

Even though you're a 13 year old girl, no one fools with chest pain no matter what anyone says with all due respect to you Mother.  Young people seldom have heart problems and young females even less but never, never tisk-tisk away chest pain as all us humans are subject to heart problems from new borns to senior citizens.  Yes, you could have acid reflex but remember, never fool with chest pain.  Even if the pain lessons over night, still go to an ER tomorrow morning and if the pain gets worse, consider going any 'ole time includiing the middle of the night.  With your symptoms please consider going to an ER rather than your doctor as the ER has all the equipment to check you out.  Be prepared and don't be scared when you arrive at the ER because they'll probably take you into a room surrounded by curtains, (all the following will be "probably"), put an plastic oxygen tube in your nose (not way into your nose!), just enough to get some 02, take a chest X-ray, and put an EKG cuff on your arm and leave it there so the doctors and nurses will have a constant look-see at your blood pressure and heart rate, it won't hurt. You'll probably have to wait for different medical folks to talk with you and your Mom.  Tell them everything, be specific.  You know best what's been going on.  The ER staff will be friendly and relaxed and it's OK that you're the nervous one; you have a right to be nervous.    Tell your Mom you really want to go to the ER; if the pain worsens go then.  Believe me, the ER people will tell you they would much rather see you sooner and everything checks out OK than later and you're in trouble.  Good luck!

  4. First, question you need to consider is whether you have had past esophageal acid reflux.  GERD.   Sometimes, even in the teen years you can suffer a muscle strain in your chest area.  Maybe, you have been working or playing at activities that would be out of the ordinary for you.   Lifting several boxes. Some type of family house cleaning project.  I always try ask friends "what have you done that is unusual activity for you."  Try to think back to Friday morning forward.  I am sure it is not a cardiac issue or your symptoms would becoming progessively worse to the point that you would not be able to write an email note to the general population.   If you started playing tennis recently, I would be suspicious of a muscle strain from the tennis practice.  I know females who have severe upper quadrant pain from a muscle strain.  Maybe softball?  Just inventory your activites and I am sure you will find source for a muscle strain in a torso muscle.  Sometimes, pain "refers" to the chest and frightens us to fear a heart problem.   I think your mom could provide something like Advil an over the counter anti-inflammatory medication.   With a bite to eat.  Good luck.  Hope you feel better.  If still concerned I would see my doctor on Monday.

  5. I had BAD acid reflux when i was your age.

Try to drink SPRITE... and eat less greasy/fried foods.

    o to the doctor though.

    Try taking Pepcid AC

    it's great.

  6. I hope that all you have is gas.. it can travel through your chest (all over your body actually). And it can hurt. Take care of yourself.

  7. oh! i've had this a lot of times! you just need to rest.... it happens if you have ran a lot. =D

  8. Could be a number of things, so ask yourself these questions...

Is my bra or pants too tight?

Have I been eating while lying on my stomach?  Causes acid.

Have been taking in lots of carbonated drinks?  " " Gas

Gassy food, i.e. cauliflower, beans, etc?  "     "

You may be having mild anxiety attacks, do you worry?

If it is your heart you can always take some insurance,

by swallowing a baby aspirin after breakfast each morning.

81 mg will do the trick.  And drink lots of water.

Are you a nervous type, is there an event coming up that

    worries you?

If None of these things apply go to your doctor and run

it down to him.  Calm yourself, the odds of it being

serious are extremely slim.  You'll be in our prayers.
