Question:

Chest pains?

I'm having chronic chest pains on my left side of my chest. Not too painful but very annoying shooting pains. I have generalized anxiety disorder & hypochondria. I've been to the ER several times...took several EKGs and blood tests. The doctor told me that since I'm not obese, don't smoke, don't do cocaine, and don't have diabetes, it's impossible for me (a 26 year old) to have a heart attack or heart disease. My left arm gets numb and tingly. My doctor told me it's all anxiety. Should I be concerned?

  1. Yes you should be concerned!

Go to another doctor to get a second opinion and do not tell that doctor you saw one before that visit, cause he will want to know his diagnosis and may compromise his judgement.

  2. It's not impossible to have an MI at 26, all non-reproducible chest pain deserves a work up, granted risk stratification is warranted, but nonetheless, even though anxiety is the likely cause, without a formal workup to rule out a cardiac etiology, underlying angina/Prinzmetal's, infection, etc. cannot be excluded.

  3. according to the website i visited, its a LS (limited symptom) panic attack. if you have anxiety this could be a possibility (numbness, tingling, chestpain)

but my gut instinct says you should see another doctor without mentioning your last visit or he will probably give you the same diagnosis as the last doctor.

hope you resolve your problem.   = ]

  4. Benzodiazapines helped me to fix this.

But meditation (I sh*t you not it really does work) and yoga are the way to go.

5000 years of trial and error have given us some really anazing treatments. You have to be willing to give it a chance.
