Chest surgery: Cleveland Browns DT Phil Taylor aims early return but warned of risks – NFL News
Cleveland Browns’ defensive tackle, Phil Taylor, who is hoping for an earliest possible return from a chest injury to action some time in the 2012 National Football League (NFL) season, has received a stark warning from his teammate, linebacker,
D'Qwell Jackson, against doing so prematurely.
D'Qwell, who missed as many as 26 games in the NFL 2009 and 2010 seasons with the same injury, has asked Phil to avoid setting himself too ambitious targets, warning him of the risks and setbacks attached to an earlier comeback.
The only difference in injuries of the two players is that Taylor has torn pectoral muscle on one side of his chest, while Jackson had on both sides. The recovery and rehab process is almost identical.
Taylor, who had a surgery to repair the muscle last month, said he has spoken to Jackson and received many encouraging words from him.
He says:
"I talked to him. He gave me lots of words of encouragement. He told me not to come back too early and keep my head up and keep working hard."
The DT confirmed this after disclosing that he aims to rejoin the squad some time later this season. His fresh hopes are contradictory to some earlier reports claiming the player might miss the entire 2012 season due to the injury.
Phil said:
"When I'm back, I'm back. I'm taking it one day at a time. When I think I'm ready to play, I'll be out there."
While giving details of his injury, the DT said he at first did know not what had happened to him. He shrugged it off as to be some sort of strain but later scans results showed it to be the torn pectoral muscle.
Commenting on his recovery process and status, he said:
"I'm doing good right now. I'm itching to get back, but I'm not going to rush it. When I know it's time for me to be out there, I'll be out there."
Although it looks certainly impossible, if Taylor’s comeback happens anytime this season it will be a big plus for Browns. The player, who started all 16 games for Browns during his rookie appearance last season, mattered most in the team’s
defence performance.
