Chester Ridge’s winning prospects look bright for the Newcastle Stampede Novices’ Handicap Chase
The Class 5 Newcastle Stampede Novices’ Handicap Chase will take place at Newcastle on 29th March, 2012. The £1,819 race will cover a distance of 2 miles and 110 yards on a good surface, where On Gossamer Wings, Transact, Arrow
Barrow, Ballybanks, Chester Ridge, Darkan Road and Sambelucky will compete.
The William Amos trained bay gelding, Chester Ridge, may be able to improve on this track. He has the capability of progressing, and Amos’s training may take full form on the track today.
The son of Alflora, out of mare Scarlet Ember, has competed in five races since his career began on 22nd March, 2010. The eight-year-old gelding started this season on 7th January, 2012. Under jockey
Brian Harding, he could not complete the race as he fell in the Freebetting.co.uk Handicap Chase at Newcastle.
His next start, which took place on 1st February, 2012, showed remarkable progression. Held at Newcastle, Chester Ridge finished fourth in the La Taxis Handicap Chase. Teamed with jockey James Reveley, he started slow but made
steady headway before he lost pace and could not recover.
Racing today at familiar ground may be beneficial, as the gelding's form has improved considerably. In this race, he will be mounted by Brian Harding.
On Gossamer Wings, trained and owned by Ferdy Murphy, started his season in an impressive fashion. He raced as a favourite in the debut with the odds of 5 to 4, but landed third. He missed the finish as a runner-up by a tremendous margin of 12 lengths
in the Turftv Novices’ Handicap Chase at Musselburgh on 16thFebruary, 2012.
With the odds of 7 to 2, he landed the same place under jockey Lucy Alexander in the Alice’s Noodle Bar Novices’ Handicap Chase at Stratford on 12th March, 2012. This time he could have finished as a runner-up as he fell behind,
Edlomond, by a neck.
The son of Winged Love, out of Katie Parson, pulled up from three races last season. It seems that he has recovered in time for this race, where he will be racing for a placed finish. Today, he will be mounted by Ferdy Murphy himself, which may motivate
the eight-year-old gelding.
Transact, son of Trans Island, out of Khrisma, pleased his connections with his placed finish in the Guinness St. Patrick’s Handicap Chase at Newcastle on 17thMarch, 2012. Under jockey James Reveley, he got held up, and from then on could
not gain speed. He raced as a favourite with the odds of 7 to 2 and fell 1 ½ length behind, Pamak D’Airy.
It seems, Chester Ridgem has been preferred over On Gassamer Wings, which might be the right decision by the punters, because he is likely to prevail in today’s race. On Gossamer Wings may finish as a runner-up followed closely by Transact in third.
