Chestnut Ben to make thrilling comeback in Bulmers No. 17 Handicap Chase at Uttoxeter
Anay Turge´s recent form reads well, but the Nigel Hawke-trained is likely to run behind Chestnut Ben in Bulmers No. 17 Handicap Chase at Uttoxeter, this Monday. Gary Brown’s charge was mighty impressive on his previous start back in March, when taking the
top prize by a length’s distance at Huntingdon.
He should be respected on that wonderful performance. In the Bob Brown Memorial Handicap Chase, the 5-2 favourite chased the leader until approaching last. He edged right, and strengthened his position even more in the final stages.
His supporters raced keenly, but in the hands of Mr S. Clements, he maintained the standards to ensure the top rank with ease. He won with more in hand than the bare margin suggested. He is the one to show improvement, especially with the assistance of A.
P. McCoy.
The son of Ridgewood Ben performed superbly last season. After doing the damage at Hereford in last December, he lost his rhythm for a while, and unseated the rider in January. Quickly getting his act together, the John Bourke-owned clinched a handsome triumph
in March.
The memories of last year’s two wins are still fresh. The Sean Deu Burca-bred is likely to show progress, and produce a positive result today. He is not facing an easy task though.
Anay Turge will make things very tricky for him. The son of Turgeon tasted a classy 2-length success on his Cepstow venture. Kept doing the great job, he shared the podium on his last two starts. After finishing second at Ffos Las, the 7-year-old ended up
third at Hereford.
The Mme Annick Penouilh-bred is keeping the consistency, and will be a dangerous horse to tackle. However, he needs to try something different in order to get the better of Chestnut Ben.
The remaining two contestants are unlikely to do something special. Sawpit Supreme is making debut for the new yard. Under the care of David Bridgwater, the Tom Scudamore-ridden isn’t expected to make an impact, because he has no great record when fresh.
As far as Molko Jack’s prospects are concerned, others have more solid claims.
