Chetan Anand enters into Men’s Singles second round of the Yonex OCBC US Open Grand Prix Gold 2011
Former Indian top seed, Chetan Anand, reserved his place in the Men’s Singles second round after beating Slovakia’s Jarolim Vicen in the first round of the Yonex OCBC US Open Grand Prix Gold 2011, in California, USA, on Monday, July 11.
Chetan dug deep into his reserves to defeat Jarolim in an entertaining 40-minute contest, which took three sets of top-class badminton from both shuttlers. The Indian, however, delivered a stunning performance in the final game and won the battle in an impressive
manner.
It was an interesting match in the opening half, where both players played fast badminton by moving swiftly at the net. The exchange of fast rallies drew the attention of the big crowd, as both shuttlers displayed a wonderful show of incredible badminton.
Chetan took a lead of two points at the end of the opening half by reaching 11-9. After the break, the Indian maintained a good speed by moving fast in all areas of the court. His returned to the baseline was very quick, which left no gap for Jarolim to
place his strokes. Chetan won the set with a three-point margin of 21-18, in 14 minutes.
The second game was more entertaining, where Jarolim was the leader as he maintained a reasonable lead in the opening half by reaching 11-8. Chetan then lost his focus and was struggling in controlling the bird, as Jarolim spared no chance for him to make
a comeback in the set. The Indian made many errors and lost the game by a difference of 18-21, in 15 minutes.
The third and deciding set was absolutely a one-sided affair, as the Indian put up a superb show of his class and played to his full potential in this game. He played planned and positive badminton to remain highly focused throughout the set and clinched
it with a wonderful difference of 21-11, in just 11 minutes. The rubber-set game of 40 minutes ended with a 21-18, 18-21 and 21-11 score on the board.
