India’s veteran Men’s Singles expert Chetan Anand continued his successful journey and advanced into pre quarter-finals of Yonex OCBC US Open GPG by beating Joseph Rogers on July 3, 2012.
World Number 72 shuttler is striving hard to revive his old status in the arena and he made strong bid by sealing a straight-set win in the second round of this Grand Prix Gold event.
Chetan looked in prime touch in this 29-minute fight as he finished this battle with favourable result of 21-14 and 21-11.
Now the badminton critics are giving him better odds for his next challenge as he is going to face another lower ranked shuttler Edwin Ekiring en route to the quarter-final round.
He will surely utilise the valuable experience of the second round in which he stamped his supremacy over Joseph Rogers of Canada.
The 31-year-old Indian was bit sluggish in the beginning of first set but he picked up the pace and gained an immediate advantage.
Chetan stayed behind until 2-5 but then he started fetching valuable points at a steady pace and caught his rival at 6-6 total.
He pushed the opposing shuttler on the back-foot with a couple of power packed rallies and finished the first half with a respectable score position of 11-8.
After the interval, he kept on dictating Joseph Rogers and established an unassailable lead of five points which helped him to bag opening set with a staggering knock of 21-14.
The maestro capitalised this early advantage in next game and outclassed his competitor in an even more impressive manner.
Though, Joseph Rogers put up some decent resistance in first half of the set but he could not stand tall against his opponent’s intensive invasion.
Chetan snatched five consecutive points straight away in the beginning and got into commanding position with a 6-2 margin.
He committed fatal mistakes just before the interval which allowed the Canadian shuttler to narrow the gap with an 11-10 total.
However, the Indian player showed elevated craft to regain his dominance in later part of game. He mounted pressure by putting distinctive figure of 14-10 and then hammered his rival with 21-11 score on the board.
