Chetan Anand tames Aditya Joshi in first round of 2012 Syed Modi International India GPG
India’s seasoned campaigner Chetan Anand played impeccable badminton in the opening round of Shaheed Dr. K.L. Garg - Syed Modi International India GPG and ensured his presence in the second round on December 19, 2012.
This Men’s Singles encounter saw him against the compatriot player Aditya Joshi who surrendered in just two games.
However, Chetan Anand had to put an extra effort to seal this splendid straight-set victory with a favourable result of 21-18 and 21-10.
The Indian maestro took some time to revive his lost form as he remained at the lower end in establishing rallies of first set.
Meanwhile, Aditya made best out of his rival’s blunders and established a decent lead in no time. He clinched valuable points in a row and placed an impressive total of 7-3.
At this stage, Chetan showed his real class and prevailed in three consecutive rallies to counterbalance the situation.
He did not drop his pace and kept the opposing shuttler under control all the way to half time. This laudable effort yielded good result as he finished first half of the set with a respectable score position of 11.
There were lots of turns and twists after the mid-game break as both native shuttlers put all in their possession to oust the opponent.
They stood toe-to-toe and game kept swinging between them until 17-17. Finally, this cliff-hanging tussle ended when Chetan struck hard and grounded his competitor with 21-18 margin.
With such a nerve-racking end, the spectators were expecting plenty of fireworks in the following set but their thirst was not filled properly.
This segment of the showdown proved a one-sided affair as Chetan Anand did not give his rival even a single counterattack opportunity and cast him out with a staggering knock.
He made his intentions clear by pocketing five consecutive points in the beginning. He doubled the trouble for Aditya by unleashing a flurry of well placed strokes.
This powerful campaign took him to a commanding position in third quarter of the set and Chetan emerged as victor with an impressive result of 21-10.
Now his next challenge is to surpass Yim Jong Woo of Korea to surge into pre quarter-finals of Shaheed Dr. K.L. Garg - Syed Modi International India GPG.
