Chetan Anand tames Sergiy Shatenko at Men’s Singles round-of-32 at Canada Open Grand Prix 2012
India’s Chetan Anand continued his staggering run and reached into Men’s Singles pre-quarter-final after taming Canada’s Sergiy Shatenko at round-of-32 clash at the Yonex Canada Open Grand Prix 2012 in Richmond, on Thursday, July 12.
The experienced Chetan, who is seeded at the third position in Men’s Singles draw, showed his remarkable skills on court and he easily sent his rival packing without showing any mercy to him.
The higher ranked Indian shuttler was in tremendous form on court as he did not show any sign of confusion in the entire battle and easily registered a comprehensive win over his local challenger by ending up the fight in straight sets with a one-sided score.
However, it was a nightmare for the Canadian shuttler who received a shocking treatment from his Indian opponent. He could not play positive badminton and also failed to change the tempo of rallies and eventually lost the match in just 24 minutes.
Chetan was in superb form when he opened his run in first game quite authoritatively and dictated the pace with a wonderful ease.
Sergiy played good badminton in few opening rallies but failed to stop his Indian rival from setting up a comfortable lead of 11-7 until the one-minute interval.
After the break, Chetan continued showing his incredible craft by maintaining his speed at the highest level.
The higher ranked Indian man did not face any trouble from Sergiy in ending phase and won the first set easily with a huge margin of 21-14.
In the following game, it was the Indian shuttler again who took a remarkable lead over his Canadian rival until the mid-game interval by reaching at 21-6.
After the break, Sergiy tried to break the tempo of his rival by making the rallies a bit slow but failed to take any advantage as his opponent was on a different level.
Chetan did not let the speed of rallies down and easily snatched the second game with a lopsided margin of 21-10.
The third seeded Chetan emerged as the winner in this round-of-32 clash with a stunning 21-14 and 21-10 score on the board.
