Cheteshwar Pujara, India's domestic perpetual run machine gets a ticket for the Test side
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 has been renowned for producing quality bowlers, India on the other hand has been a producer of the
finest batsmen the world has ever seen. One young star, who has eluded the eyes of the selection committee of the BCCI has been Cheteshwar Pujara. To say that he is talented, would be akin to stating that Picasso could paint. This fine young cricketer has
ticked all the boxes outside of the International circuit to make him worthy of being selected for the national side however luck had so far not been on his side.
However, his calling could not have been delayed more by the selectors who rightly so have finally included him in India’s test squad. Critics came down harsh at him stating that he could score only on the flat pitch of Rajkot. He silenced them, by going
outside and scoring. They said he could not score big hundreds, and he slapped back a quick answer with three consecutive centuries. Some then went on to state, that he was slow. He silenced them yet again by altering the pace of his game to become a quick
scorer. He scored on the pitches in England, he scored in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 and until this Sunday his average in first class was at a whopping 60.38 having scored 14 first class centuries. Many would still argue that statistics are not a reflection of a successful
star and maybe rightly so. However this fine young 22 year old batsman surely deserved a chance with the Indian side, and it was high time the selectors chose him for the national side.
At the age of Twenty two many would look at alternative avenues. It is a time to search for perspective, it is a time for reflection however this man was desperate and he certainly had perspective. Those who know this man know the amount of talent that he
has to offer to the Indian side. Arvind Pujara the father of this boy, it was said used to borrow bats for his son when he was younger. Cheteshwar went on to score his first triple century with a borrowed bat. Following the death of his mother, this young
man seemingly found more motivation in what he did best. Play cricket, and that he did very successfully in the domestic circles.
His good friend, Akash Chopra remembers the time when Pujara was dropped from the first season of IPL and how due to an injury during the second season was a depressing time for the cricketer.
“Whenever you are not picked, you feel left out. There are enough people around to make you believe you deserve to be there. And also when you have scored so many runs, there needs to be a solid justification. But he has conducted himself really well. Even
though he has been dejected he hasn't allowed it to surface,” Akash chopra exclaimed.
In the face of much criticism the only way that Pujara has responded is by scoring runs, and a lot of them. His technique is solid and would certainly be well suited for the longer version of the game. With the advent of the shorter format of the game, the
T20’s and the IPL there is always an incentive for batsmen to be flashy, and big hitters. This has come at the expense of many players like Rahul Dravid who have time and again wowed the cricket fans with his superb display of batting, that is well suited
to the longer format where the batsman has time to think and decide his strategy before he goes into a particular game. Pujara has maintained a base, and his cricket has revolved around it.
Many such players feel dejected in the face of younger players hogging the lime light based on big hitting and little technique.
"Not only younger, lesser talented people, who have done far fewer things in the world of cricket, getting more limelight, more money, more recognition in the world of cricket. That is good enough reason to feel dejected. You are told if you score, you will
be picked. If you are not, there is a serious problem." Chopra said, and it could only be seen how Pujara proves the critics wrong yet again by scoring big runs.
