Cheteshwar Pujara focusing on following fitness routine – Cricket News Update
Indian batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/CA-Pujara-c1209, who has battled on-and-off knee injuries which have kept him out of action for prolonged periods, has revealed that he is focusing on following a strict fitness routine in order to avoid further injuries.
"I am very conscious about my fitness now. I am aware and try my best to avoid injuries," Pujara said while speaking to
DNA. "I have a fitness routine and I follow it religiously. It hurts when I miss a training session. The best chance to avoid injuries in cricket, where you throw yourself on the field, is by trying and following certain training programmes."
"I am following a schedule prepared by the NCA physios. I am working on strength and stability," he added.
The 24-year-old sustained an injury in his left knee during a warm-up game prior to the Indian Premier League 2009, which forced him out of action for a period of six months. The right-hander managed to recover, and even went on to make his Test debut for
the national side, smashing a match-winning 72 against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757.
However, the 2011 edition of the IPL, during which he was affiliated with the Royal Challengers Bangalore franchise, saw him sustaining yet another knee injury in May – while fielding during the RCB’s clash with the Kochi Tuskers http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kerala-c803, Pujara’s foot caught
in the turf, and following consultations with a physiotherapist, the 24-year-old underwent knee surgery.
The surgery in July, and the recovery period that followed, ruled him out for a further period of four months, and the injury had a major effect on Pujara’s attempts to break into the Indian Test XI. He trained at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore,
