Cheteshwar Pujara to lead India A during West Indies tour in June – Cricket News Update
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), on Friday announced its team A squad for the tour of West Indies, which begins in Barbados from June 2, 2012.
The 24-year-old Gujarat batsman, Cheteshwar Pujara, who has recently recovered from a knee injury he had sustained during the 4th season of Indian Premier League, has been appointed as the captain of the 15 member http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 A team for the Caribbean itinerary.
Pujara, who made his Test debut in October 2010, could play only three Tests for India before sustaining the knee injury in the 2011 IPL. In his three Test appearances, the right-handed http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gujarat-c787 batsman compiled 107 runs, including a half century. Having
recovered completely from the knee injury, the middle-order batsman is looking forward to work his way back into the national set up and the upcoming tour of West Indies with the A team will provide him a platform to press his claims for national selection.
Wicketkeeper batsman, Wriddhiman Saha, will assist Pujara during the Caribbean tour. Other players from the national set up included into the 15-man squad for the itinerary include Rohit Sharma, Rahul Sharma, RP Singh, Ajinkya Rahane, Abhinav Mukund, Ashok
Dinda and Manoj Tiwary.
The West Indies' chief selector, Clyde Butts, said that through the A tours, the WICB is committed to provide the fringe players an opportunity to develop their game at the international level. He hoped the players will use the opportunity to press their
claims for national selection and recalls.
