Working on a 4.3 (1988) it is a crate motor. Developed a massive oil leak near oil filter. And the oil sender was not working. I removed and replaced the oil sender, same big leak .(pressure) Decided the oil psi bypass must be stuck. Removed the bypass spun on filter, same pressure leak. Had the wife come out and fire it up and found the leak. It is not the sender or bypass. Between the block below the oil sender adapter and to the left of the filter is a small machined spot (approx 3/8 to 1/2 flat spot. round) it feels like a plug has blown out there. It is slightly ragged. What is it and how do i fix it? I really need your help. I have worked on Chev's for a long time but never saw this before.

Thanks in advance.

  1. hubby is saying it is an oil galley plus . he is a  Master mechanic. The only thing he is saying is to get an oil galley plug but it is going to be very hard to find one . he said maybe try tightening it  if that doesn't work wrap it in teflon tape and see if that stops the leak. other then that your gonna hafta find a new plug which will be very hard to do. best of luck to you. if he can be of more help email me at of2dbeach@yahoo.com

  2. I'm pretty sure there is supposed to be a plug in that hole, maybe the place that built the engine never installed it and you didn't notice it either. I can't remember what thread size it is though, sorry.

  3. I am not sure,I believe there is a Allen headed plug there.

327 from Autozone left one out once between the head an block under the gasket.

The 4x4 has a housing bolted there for cooling line to the radiator.Good luck ! Sorry not much help
