Chewing gum before surgery,should I cancel my appointment?

it's not until 6 hours away,but I didnt know I wasnt allowed to chew gum..help =\

It's for getting wisdom teeth out..

  1. Umm i'm pre sure your not supposed to eat anything like 12 or something hours before you have the surgery..might want to call your doc. and tell them the situation. Its just gum...not sure how that'll effect the surgery but better safe then sorry right?

Chances are that they dont want you chewing gum because it makes you salivate more, which could lead to aspiration if you vomit under anesthesia.  While I highly doubt they will have a problem with chewing gum 6 hrs before surgery, I would say call the office or hospital where the surgery is being performed to check.  Better to be safe than sorry.
