Question:

ChexSystems. How do I get off the list?

I opened my 2nd bank account, I closed the first because the bank wasn't in my hometown. Anyway, I opened one with Bank of America, and for the first time I had it as a joint account with my husband, since he thinks we're supposed to have everything joint. I had a job, later quit because he got a better job and I had my 2nd child. I thought he would be (I guess) devoted to keeping our account positively. Instead we got a few overdrafts and I was always scrapping money from my parents to keep it at a positive balance. I never had enough to close it once I was tired of asking my parents for money all the time. Next thing you know my husband and I are in the debt collectors hands and now in the ChexSystem, now I have a job, I paid the debt and I want to open an individual account (f**k what he wants), but I tried and I was denied. How can I possibly get my name off the list? I want to start fresh like I did with my first individual account. I am really good at keeping my expenses in good faith, but being under my husband's influence ruined it. My first bad credit, but what's worse is I can't get an account. Any suggestions, helpful hints would be appreciated!

  1. There is no guarantee for removal from chexsystems since it is a credit reporting agency but you can always attempt removal by dispute.

Depending on where you live, there are non-chexsystems banks and other banks that have second chance checking for those reported. You can definitey get an account...there are some banks that will allow those reported to chexsystems to open an account regardless of where they live and they will not use chexsystems.

  2. SInce you paid it they have to notify chex systems it is paid, it is then up to the bank to determinie if they want to open an account for you.

However either way you are removed from chex systems after 5 years weather you paid or not. That can be confirmed through their website.

Also some banks such as: Omni Credit Union, Woodforest bank, First Convenience Bank, Compass Bank, and quite possibly Wachovia (not sure on Wachovia) do not use Chex systems for verification.

I think if you do a search online you can confirm that.

YOu can also apply for some accounts online and see if you get them. If not that is why but at least you don't have the embarrassment of going in and facing them. Then make your opening deposit via mail.

  3. pay your bill

  4. I don't think you can get off of Chex system. You did the crime, now you need to do the time. It's quite understandable that banks don't want to do business with you after you stole from another bank. They assume that you are going to try to steal from them too. Why would they want to do business with someone who will probably try to steal from them?

But not all banks use Chex system. You can get an account at a bank that doesn't. You will have to look around and apply for a lot of accounts, but you'll find a bank.
