Chez Reavie fires course lowest alongside David Toms in the first round of Crowne Plaza Invitational
Chez Reavie fired a score of 8-under-par, 62 in the first round of the Crowne Plaza Invitational to join David Toms in lead. The $6.2-million Professional Golf Association (PGA) Tour event is taking place at the par-70 Colonial
Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas.
The 29-year-old who hails from Kansas, Reavie teed-off from the front and reeled eight birdies to tie Toms in lead. He initiated his birdie fiesta from the first tee, where he rolled his first birdie. The player used a driver on
the tee and successfully climbed the elevated fairway with a 2-iron that left him standing on the green, and eventually saw him making another birdie.
Accompanied by his caddie, the player walked towards the third tee and after reaching the fairway with a hybrid, rolled another birdie that left rest of the players thinking, what was this PGA rookie up on?
The winner of the 2008 RBC Canadian Open hurried to the next hole, while flashing his famous smile at the crowd and par-equalled it. The crowd went in awe, when they saw him save par after falling in a greenside bunker.
Reavie wrapped the front nine holes of the course with a score of 3-under par 32.
On his way towards the back nine, the player birdied the two opening holes and crossed half of the field to occupy the 33rd spot on the leader board. The commentator who could see the player chasing Toms said out of
curiosity, “the rookie has hidden plans for the day.”
Utilizing the support from the crowd, Reavie proceeded towards two of the most difficult holes on the back and conquered them without a mistake. The player used a hybrid on the tee of the 12th hole, which left him aiming
his second shot from 2 yards of the green. Using the edge given by an accurate second shot, Reavie rolled a par-putt on the hole, which held the highest bogey count. He emulated similar action on the par-3 13th and managed to keep his scorecard
free from bogeys unlike majority of the field.
He wrapped the back with a birdie at the closing hole and savoured success in producing the lowest score of the course alongside David Toms.
