Chi Shanrong requests BAM to re-designate him in Bukit Jalil Sports School – Badminton Update
There were rumours that Women’s Singles coach of Malaysia Chi Shanrong has left national setup but Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) has talked down all the speculations.
BAM general manager Kenny Goh briefed the media that Shanrong has just requested to send him back to Bukit Jalil Sports School (BJSS) where he was holding the post of Girl’s Singles coach.
The national body promoted him to senior level after Wong Tat Meng who had some clashes with governing body of coaching and training setup.
However, Shanrong could not produce the expected results during this 18-month venture and now he has asked BAM to re-designate him in BJSS.
Kenny Goh verified the news that the badminton guru has applied for a short break and he is interested to continue with his previous job responsibilities.
He said, "I have not received any letter from him but he did request for a break. Shanrong has also inquired whether it is possible for him to return to BJSS."
During last 18 months, Malaysian female shuttlers have failed to elevate their status in the arena as they terribly failed to hit the mark in all international tournaments.
At the moment, World Number 54 Jing Yi Tee is the top ranked national campaigner and there is hardly any hope that any other female shuttler will claim a respectable position in the near future.
This has put the country’s badminton future in danger and former greats have criticised concerning authorities for their incompetency.
Earlier, BAM also came under fire when couple of foreign coaches left the national setup. Things got worse when news came out that Women’s Singles coach is also thinking to step down.
However, BAM general manager Kenny Goh clearly stated that Shanrong is not quitting and his request to join BJSS will be entertained in next meeting of Coaching and Training Committee (CTC).
He said, "Shanrong has not resigned and his request to join BJSS will be decided during the coaching and training committee (CTC) meeting on Saturday."
It seems that Shanrong’s wish will not be fulfilled easily as many coaches are already working at junior level so he will be directed to continue with his current responsibilities.
Meanwhile, BAM is also thinking to appoint Cheah Soon Kit as new head coach if Park Joo Bong refuses its offer.
