Chicago Bears' Devin Hester amongst others uncertain for Sunday’s game – NFL News
Chicago Bears’ Devin Hester was not seen in the practice field this Friday putting the wide receiver’s participation in Sunday’s game in doubt.
The Bears are geared for a game against the Detroit Lions on Sunday at Soldier Field. Hester is now questionable for Sunday’s game.
Hester suffering a left ankle injury had missed out the practice on Thursday too. The wide reciever injured his left ankle in the game against the Philadelphia Eagles which saw his team win 30-24 on Monday. The injury which happened
in the middle of the fourth quarter saw Hester leave the game unfinished.
Bears coach Lovie Smith despite having reservations over Hester missing out three consecutive practice sessions was still hopeful.
"We're still hopeful for Devin," Smith said. "It's never good when a player doesn't practice, but if he's ready to go Sunday there is still a chance we'll let him go."
So hope still remains that Hester will be joining the team in Sunday’s game. On the safe side the Bears have Johnny Knox (kickoff) retained to do the needful. Knox despite his low performance in Philadelphia has impressed the coaching
officials. Knox merely managed one pass for 14 yards in his team’s sweep over the Eagles on Monday night. The 25-year old currently averages 18.1 yards per catch.
Despite being hopeful for Hester’s availability, the coach was speculating on other options.
“There's only one Devin Hester,'' Smith said. ''No one has anyone like him. Without him there, we'll just have another very good returner to replace him. We have other guys on our roster who have scored touchdowns in an NFL game,
so we should be OK.''
So Knox is ready to be on the field in case Hester does not recover from the injury in time. Julius Peppers on the other hand practiced this Friday. The defensive end is hopeful to play against the Lions.
The Bears may have another injury plaguing their team on Sunday. Matt Toeaina with a knee injury may not play. He will be replaced by Anthony Adams in case the injury persists.
Defensive end Julius Peppers and safety Major Wright practiced for the first time this week on Friday. Both are the likely choice for this Sunday’s game. Peppers had sustained a knee sprain while playing against the Detroits on
Oct. 10. Peppers however kept playing which worsened his injury in Monday night’s game at Philadelphia. Major Wright on the other hand had an ankle sprain but is expected to recover.
Gabe Carimi has had an arthroscopic surgery performed on his right knee. Carimi was injured when he played against the New Orleans on Sept 18. The injury made him miss six games. He practiced last over a week ago and had felt pain
in his right knee.
