Chicago Bears's wide receiver Earl Bennett's orange cleats land him in trouble – NFL News
The National Football League might eventually have to eject Chicago Bears wide receiver Earl Bennet for continuing to wear orange coloured cleats on his shoes which constitutes a violation of the league’s uniform policy.
Bennett has been previously fined $ 5000 for wearing the cleats and will now pay double that amount of $ 10,000 for again violating the League’s rules in the Bears 37-13 defeat of the Detroit Lions. The fines will keep on increasing
by an amount of $ 5000 if Bennet continues to wear the boots in the Bears next game against the San Diego Chargers.
Bennett said Tuesday "After that I've heard that they are going to call (a) delay of game and maybe kick me out of the game,"
The wide receiver decided to wear the cleats for Sunday’s encounter against the Detroit Lions after prodding from team mates
"All week I didn't practice in them," Bennett said. "Usually the shoe I practice in I normally play in, but they were in my locker and I asked (his teammates) 'Should I wear the orange shoes again?' One of them was like 'Most definitely,
I'll take care of it.' So that's how it went down."
It seems his friend and Bears quarterback Cutler was behind the motivation when he responded to the question during an interview saying
I know,” Cutler said. “He asked me before the game, ‘Yay or nay?’ I was like, ‘Yeah, can’t back out now.’ This game took a little bit of a check out of my wallet.”
The Bears went on to win the game 37-13 with a dominant performance throughout the game as they harassed and harried their opponents into submission. Bennett had a great game receiving six passes the highest of the Chicago Wide
Receivers showing brilliant coordination with Bears quarterback Jay Cutler.
Bennett doesn’t mind the mounting fines and his cleats have become a lucky charm as the receiver has made a sensational comeback to the game. The Bears won both games in which Bennet had his orange cleats on since his return from
a chest injury that left him out of the team for five games.
The 206 pounder has made 14 receives this season and covered 196 receiving yards. Bennett joined the Chicago Bears in 2008 and has played 44 games in his career for the Bears.
