Chicago Bears CB Charles Tillman believes WR Brandon Marshall helps improve defence
The Chicago Bears defence will practice training camp drills against one of the best receivers in the National Football League (NFL) after they signed three-time Pro Bowler, Brandon Marshall in the offseason.
Marshall was the Bears headline signing in the current offseason and as well as improving the offence the player is also expected to help the defence prepare to meet the other big receivers during the regular season.
Cornerback Charles Tillman believes that Marshall’s arrival is just what he needed to prepare for the next season when he will be tasked with stopping the National Football Conference (NFC) North Division’s pass heavy offences.
Speaking to The Chicago Tribune he said:
“I think it will help out a lot.”
Adding further he said:
“I think (Marshall) makes me better. He pushes me; he pushes our entire defence with his big style, big size…his style of play, his physical-ness."
Marshall joined the franchise after moving from the Miami Dolphins.
During his time in Florida, Marshall put up great numbers each season although he failed to carry the Dolphins forward.
In Chicago he has rejoined his best friend, quarterback, Jay Cutler and will be looking forward to a big season to help the Bears once again reach the playoffs.
For Tillman though it is a great opportunity to pit himself against the Pro-Bowl receiver and prepare himself to face the big receivers at rivals Detroit Lions and Green Bay Packers.
Tillman continued:
"So, yeah, he definitely pushes us and he makes our defense a lot better; he makes our defensive backfield a lot better.”
The Bears ended last year with a poor 8-8 record and missed out on the playoffs after the defence failed to produce and the offence suffered from injuries to big players.
This year the team is looking to get back into the postseason and Tillman believes that the Bears are ready for the challenge.
“I like our team. I like what we are able to do and I haven’t been this excited in a long time. I am looking forward to it.”
The new look Chicago Bears are rearing for the start of the new season and Marshall is a big part of the team’s plans for success in the new season.
