Chicago Bears LB Brian Urlacher cannot imagine ending career anywhere else - NFL News
Chicago Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher has given 12 years of brilliant performances and leadership to the franchise which drafted him in 2000 and the veteran intends to end his career in Chicago.
Talking to the Chicago Sun-Times on Tuesday during the National Football League’s (NFL) unveiling of new uniforms for the 32 teams, the veteran was proud of his association with the Bears and said that he could not dream of ending his career anywhere
else.
‘‘There’s no doubt in my mind I’ll finish my career with the Bears. However that works out, it works out. I can’t imagine playing anywhere else.’’
The 33-year-old has become a stalwart for the Bears with his performances and leadership on the field. Urlacher performed brilliantly once again in 2011-12 as he made 102 tackles.
Urlacher will enter the final year of his current five-year deal but told the newspaper that he wants to just keep playing well.
‘‘The No. 1 thing is, I’ve got to keep playing well. We’ll see what happens. I don’t want to go anywhere else.’’
Adding further he said.
‘‘Even when I was being a little baby and I wanted a contract extension, they gave it to me. They’ve always taken care of me. But I think it goes both ways.’’
The Bears ended the 2011-12 season 8-8 and missing out on the playoffs after injuries took their toll on the offensive line.
Season ending injuries to quarterback, Jay Cutler and running back, Matt Forte, ended their winning momentum with the Bears losing five games in a row.
The Bears though have delved into the current free agency with purpose to get back in contention for the playoffs and Urlacher praised the franchise’s new general manager, Phil Emery, for improving the offensive line ahead of the new season.
‘‘Oh, I love Emery. Look what he’s done for our team. Brought Matt [Forte] back, signed [Michael] Bush, traded for [Brandon] Marshall.
‘‘It’s great. He’s taken all of the pressure off of our draft with what he’s done.’’
The linebacker also said that he is recovering from the knee injury he sustained in the final game of last season and he will be ready to go ahead of the training camps.
