Chicago Bears LB Brian Urlacher recovering from knee injury, targets training camp for return
Chicago Bears linebacker, Brian Urlacher is growing older and the 34-year-old feels that the time is close when he will have to call it quits on his impressive career in the National Football League (NFL).
This will be his 13th season in the NFL with the Chicago Bears a team he has been with for the entirety of his career since he joined in 2000 as a first round draft pick.
Urlacher is currently rehabilitating from a knee injury he suffered during the 2011-12 regular season and plans to be fit in time to take part in the Bears training camp after missing out on the entire minicamp and organised team activities.
Speaking about his recovery he told ESPN that he is feeling better with every passing day.
He said:
"My back feels great, my neck feels good, my muscles aren't pulling anymore, so that's good."
Adding further he said:
"Everything feels pretty good right now.”
He also talked about his retirement and said that he had at least two to three years left in him.
"I always say (I want to keep playing) two to three more years. It all depends on how I play on the field, because if I don't play good enough, nobody is going to want me. But if I keep playing well and at a high level, then two to three more years at least,
I think."
The linebacker has been the face of the Bears defence for years and is one of the leaders in the locker room.
However, he is still unsure whether he will get to fulfil his dream of ending his career in Chicago.
"I'll be a free agent when the season is over and whatever happens, happens. From everything that Ted Phillips said I'll be a free agent when the season is over.”
It is likely that the linebacker will move to another franchise after this season as his current contract approaches its end.
Bears fans will be hoping that their franchise keep their hero for many more years to come since no one is more passionate to seeing Chicago succeed in the current roster than Urlacher.
